A contemporary hand-carved reproduction of a Guanyin standing on rolling sea waves — the iconography that names her “Saviour of the Seas,” patron of safe passage. The robes echo the Tang-dynasty “wind-swept” aesthetic of Wu Daozi (吴带当风 — “Wu's belt blown in the wind”).

Hand-carved by master artisans with rich polychrome and selective gilding across the drapery and waves.

A Note on Authenticity & Provenance

This sculpture is a contemporary studio reproduction, hand-carved in the traditional Chinese wood carving lineage — using camphor, sandalwood or aged hardwoods, finished with hand-applied mineral pigments or natural lacquer. Each piece is shaped by master artisans following techniques preserved across centuries.

It is inspired by the iconography and proportions of Tang dynasty Chinese Buddhist sculpture, but is not an antique or excavated artifact.
