Hollow Dry-Lacquer Seated Guan Yu
Hollow Dry-Lacquer Seated Guan Yu
Couldn't load pickup availability
A contemporary studio reproduction of Guan Yu in his Buddhist form as Sangharama Bodhisattva — the Dharma protector — depicted in armored splendor with the Green Dragon Crescent Moon Blade resting beside him.
Built in heritage workshops through the hollow dry-lacquer (jiazhu / 夹纻) technique — the same 1,400-year-old Intangible Cultural Heritage method used for our Guanyin works. The hollow body is layered from hemp cloth, raw lacquer and clay over a removable core, producing a sculpture that is hollow, lightweight, and remarkably durable. The Sutra & Silk flagship work.
A Note on Authenticity & Provenance
This sculpture is a contemporary studio reproduction, built in the 1,400-year hollow dry-lacquer (jiazhu) tradition — an East Asian Buddhist sculptural technique that uses layered hemp cloth, raw lacquer and clay over a removable core, producing a hollow, lightweight form. Each piece is built over months by master artisans in heritage workshops.
It is inspired by the iconography and proportions of Chinese Buddhist guardian sculpture, but is not an antique or excavated artifact.
